Langkawi Sportfishing Industries

I started fishing in Langkawi seriously since 1994 and at that time rod and line is something very strange to the people here. Nobody could ever imaging a thin line (5 lbs) and a tiny rod could lift up a 10 kg stingray, baracudda, giant trevally or snapper. Everybody was against the "rod & line" since they are very comfortable with their 80-100lbs handline ("kampui" local name for handline).

I have a very good friend and long time experiance fishing guide call Abdullah Bin Awang or the local call him "Pak Lah or Pawang Alu-Alu". He is very much at that time against the use of Rod & Line and he even say that "Nobody can catch a fish with that kind of method and worst still using lure - no fish will ever take a bite on lure".

Nevertheless after so many, many, many years of fishing in Langkawi everything about Sportfishing change and evolve since I started opening my ALU-ALU Sport Fishing Shop in year 2000 at the very famous Junction of pekan Kuah, Langkawi. With the opening of the shop and introduction of Sportfishing equipment to the island more and more local anglers are now using Rod, Line, Sinker and Lure for fishing including my good fishing guide Pak Lah. Infact now for every fishing trip he uses rod & line for his guest and for himself. However using traditional "kampoi" will always be around despite the technology advancement in the fishing industries.
